Public Finance Conference initiated in 1985, led by Prof. Dr. Aykut Herekman, is one of the most essential scientific organizations in Turkey. The scientific organization was called Public Finance Education Conference until the 10th conference and made significant contribution to the improvement of the field through evaluating instruction mediated through the departments of public finance and adressing basic issues of the field. The conferences held annually by public finance departmants of different universities have also played crucial role to gather and socialize the community of public finance.
In the following years, the conference started to be called Turkey Public Finance Conference, subsidized by Ministry of Finance, have turned into an organization uniting academics and bureaucrats and contending prominent issues in the field of public finance. Therefore, it has taken a crucial role both at academic progress of the universities and socio-economic development of the country. The issues dealt with at the conferences have been instructive in terms of fiscal policies, tax laws and budget processes in Turkey. Furthermore, the conference has also made significant contribution to initiate and advance scientific researches as well as improvement of the literature of public finance. In accordance with the changes of conferences held around the world beginning from 2000’s, the organization and content of Turkey Public Finance Conference has also undergone some changes. Instead of focusing on a topic, the conferences have been arranged to discuss current fiscal issues in synchronical sessions. In the Scientific Board of the conference called International Public Finance Conference/Turkey as of 2017 have been included various foreign academicians to both fulfill criteria of readership and regulations of academic incentive. In addition, the conference has enabled to unite academics, bureaucrats and practitioners from all over the world. Therefore, it has provided basis for cooperation and information sharing as well as contributing to world-wide knowledge generation.
